Romanian Senate Vice President, Dan Voiculescu, announced his resignation today. According to his statements in the plenary room, Voiculescu complained of rejection of an amendment he proposed to a law. The amendment aimed at enhancing the penalties for tax evasion.

“I want to inform the Parliament that I resigned from the Senate. The reason is related to the fact that during the last session, the Budget-Finance Committee rejected the bill calling for the doubling of tax evasion penalties. The Finance Committee, who watches over Romania’s budget, gave a negative vote on such a law and that’s an incomprehensible decision,” said Dan Voiculescu, in the Senate.

Dan Voiculescu along with Senators Ioan Ghişe (PNL), Vasile Nistor (PC), Serban Radulescu (PC) have proposed the revision of the tax evasion bill by increasing the penalties for certain frauds.
