Brittany Schussler was NOT wrong in posing with Putin, but hypocrite media reaction was wrong
Canadian speed skater Brittany Schussler snapped a selfie with Russian President Vladimir Putin and posted it on Twitter along with the caption: “I should’ve asked him to be my Valentine.”

Of course the harsh public reaction was not what Schussler expected and the overwhelming backlash determined her to remove the innocent photo with the leader of the Olympics host country.
Furthermore, the skater had to get back with all kind of explanation and apology to some folks who called Putin a dictator, persecutor, intolerant, etc. In a message he was even compared to the notorious German dictator: “Rather like posing for a photo opp with Hitler.”
One of the critics proved to be quite “funny” saying something like: “Ashamed to be Canadian. time to stop funding Olympics”.
Excuse me? Hello? I believe the crazy & record $50+ billion amount pumped into organizing the 2014 Sochi Winter Games did not come from Canada. Furthermore when Putin is unanimously accepted by all political leaders worldwide and the national teams are allowed to participate into “his Games”, nobody should complain over a simple picture which every person would have taken if had the opportunity.
The controversial selfie sparked heated debates on Internet and it’s good to see that Brittany Schussler has also plenty of support from scores of open-minded websurfers who express their approval in posing along with Putin.

“Are the Olympics meant to unite us to celebrate athletic achievement? We should be celebrating athletic achievement, not focusing on our differences. Secondly, we (American media and US government) have no right in imposing our political and philosophical believes another country. We have proven so many times that we are hypocritical in how we pick and chose when to drive our “imperialistic angles” (e.g., China’s human rights policies, Middle Eastern nations, African nations and etc). Freedom of speech is not based on “popular beliefs”, but it is based on an individual’s personal conviction. We will may not like their beliefs, but we must respect them. We still have freedom of speech (even though this is eroding very quickly).
As human beings, we all have common objectives in life. Let’s focus on those objectives and make a statement to the US media and US government that they need to start supporting the will of the people (e.g., US economy, growing debt, monetary policies of the Federal Reserve, fixing or getting ride of Obamacare and etc).”
