Death of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il has caused sorrow among citizens. In several cities in North Korea, people gathered around statues or portraits depicting the former leader to pay tribute and mourn.
Kim Jong-il’s death was announced on state television, by an anchor who showed up with tears in her eyes. The presenter said that the president died due to hard work after serving country’s people the whole life.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-il died Saturday morning at the age of 69, according to a statement published by North Korea’s state television. However the news broke out to outer world two days later.
The death occured on December 17, 2011 at 8:30 a.m. after Kim suffered “great mental and physical strain” while on a train during a “field guidance tour,” country’s state-run KCNA news agency reported.
