Video: Spain humiliates 4-0 Italy to defend European Title
World and (defending) Euro Champions Spain set a new record becoming the first team to win football’s European Trophy on two consecutive times. The Spaniards won 4-0 over Italy in Kyiv at the end of the dramatic final match of the almost month-long tournament hosted by Poland and Ukraine (scroll down for video).

The victory on Sunday night in the Ukraine’s capital, was special for Vicente Del Bosque’s team who set the record for goals scored in a European Championship final. The string of successful scoring was opened by David Silva, then continued by Jordi Alba, Fernando Torres and completed by Juan Mata.
On the other hand, Italy remains comforted because of being the only team who placed a ball in the net behind Iker Casillas (in the first match of the group), besides eliminating two of the great forces of the continent, England and Germany, before progressing to the final act of the competition.
The Iberians first showed their intentions shortly after the kick-off when Xavi’s miss preceded the opening of the score in the 14th minutes when Fabregas easily tricked Chiellini and perfectly served Silva who netted with a header.
Cesare Prandelli’s team suffered another blow in the 20th minute when Chiellini got seriously injured and was replaced by Balzaretti.

Cassano had another oportunity to level the scoreboard, before Spain raised the gap in the 41st minute on goal by Jordi Alba who received an excellent pass from Xavi. Therefore at break time Spain had already a quite comfortable 2-0 advantage.
Italy started the second half with fresh forces as Cassano was replaced by Di Natale. Udinese’s veteran was almost bringing “Squadra Azzura” back in business on two separate occasions, first, by sending a header over the post and then being blocked by the same excellent Casillas.
Azzuri’s hopes to overturn the result were shattered half an hour before the end, when the new entry Thiago Motta got injured and Italy remained in ten, as all the three substitutions had been done. In these circumstances, the Spanish mission became muh easier and Del Bosque’s players have not left any chance to their opponents.
In the last ten minutes the goal difference was doubled to 4-0 on successes by Fernando Torres, the first player to score in two European Championship Finals, and Mata who sealed the fate of the confrontation. The clear victory over Italy, confirmed Spain’s supremacy in the football world.
