World’s biggest power plant, based on concentrated solar energy, is called Shams-1 and has just been inaugurated on Sunday in the United Arab Emirates, an oil-rich state.

This plant which is able to supply about 20,000 households with electricity, revealed construction works amounted to 600 million dollars.

With a capacity of 100 megawatts, it is the largest center of its kind in the world, said Sultan al-Jaber, Director of Abu Dhabi-based Masdar, the company that runs a project aiming to cover 7% of country’s energy needs using renewable sources.
