Saudi women protest against driving ban

There is a country where women are not allowed to drive and that country is Saudi Arabia. Thousands of people have announced their participation in a major protest taking place on Sunday (27 Oct. 2013) in the Middle East nation against the ban on driving imposed to women (scroll down for video).

It is the third such protest since 1990 till today, and authorities have warned the women not to defy the law by participating in the protest because they will be punished.

Around 17,000 people signed a petition asking the government to either allow women to drive around or to explain clearly the reasons why interdiction should be maintained.

Activists encourage women to jump behind steering wheel and defy the law. According to the international press, when the first protest of this kind was held in 1990, a large number of women were arrested, while others lost their job.
