Simona Halep qualifies for quarterfinals of WTA Indian Wells after beating Eugenie Bouchard
Best Romanian women’s tennis player Simona Halep has qualified for the quarterfinals of the WTA Premier Mandatory event in Indian Wells (California) on Tuesday after winning the Round of 16 (6-2, 1-6, 6-4) over Canadian and WTA 19 Eugenie Bouchard, in one hour and 39 minutes. 22-year-old Simona Halep, WTA 7th ranked and 6th seeded, had a magnificent start of the game as she led 5-0 in the first set which she won (6-2) after 30 minutes.
The Romanian kicked off the second set in force claiming a first service break, but then she lost vigor and let Eugenie Bouchard earn point after point and win the set (6-1) in 27 minutes.
In the decisive, both players fought head to head up to 3-3, when Bouchard broke the service (3-4), but Halep responded immediately, leveling the deficit with her service break (4-4). Halep managed to win the following two games to close 6-4 the set and the match.
“I would like to see how far I can get,” said Halep after her victory over Bouchard. “I played very well in the first set, she [Bouchard] is a great player she had a very strong comeback, she is a tough player. I am glad that I won, I’m very happy . It is good to play here, maybe I will perform better in the next round. I want to see how far I get,” said Halep shortly after the game.
