CHARLIE HEBDO attackers killed in police assault: terrorist brothers died in Dammartin-en-Goele standoff
CHARLIE HEBDO. The terrorist brothers who spread fear across France in the past 55 hours were reportedly killed after a massive assault carried out by Police Friday evening. Brothers Chérif and Saïd Kouachi, aged 32 and 34 respectively, were suspected of killing 13 people in an attack on the office of the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo. They had been “black listed” for many years, said a French official on condition of anonymity.
President Francois Hollande says he will do everything possible to restore public order.
The two brothers had barricaded themselves inside a typography warehouse in Dammartin-en-Goele where they were holding a hostage.
A helicopter landed on the warehouse before elite troops of gendarmerie were deployed. The building was stormed by police and special forces and gunfire and explosions were heard in the area.
A witness said: “We heard gunfire and saw smoke rising. The shooting spree would have lasted like 30 seconds.”
The two brothers died in the fire exchange before releasing the hostage.
Explosions and gunfire could also be heard at Hypercacher supermarket in eastern Paris, at Porte de Vincennes, where several people were taken hostages.
