Sorin Oprescu, the Mayor of Bucharest, was detained by DNA prosecutors Saturday night for reportedly taking bribes of 25,000 euros from various contractors working for the city hall.
In addition, the prosecutors of the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) managed to find marked money in the possession of the 63-year-old mayor who was also filmed taking the bribe.
The anti-corruption prosecutors expressed their intention to take Mr. Oprescu before a judge and propose his arrest for a 30-day period.
