Romania kicked out from Eurovision 2016 as country’s public television TVR failed to pay debts

Romania will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest this year because of the some unpaid debts that country’s national broadcaster Televiziunea Română TVR owes to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), it was announced in an official statement on Friday.

The decision was made after a deadline given to the Romanian government to make satisfactory arrangements to repay the debt expired on Wednesday 20 April.
