Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere wants Germany to send migrants back to Greece

German Minister of Interior Thomas de Maiziere said Sunday that he wants Germany to send refugees back to Greece, where over 50,000 migrants are already waiting to be distributed between Member States of the European Union, reports Deutsche Welle.

“We have done a lot in Europe in order to improve the refugee situation in Greece,” said the Minister for “Welt am Sonntag” newspaper. “This must have consequences that will enable refugees to be sent back to Greece according to the Dublin regulations.”

Dublin Regulations stipulate that a Member State whose territory is used by the refugee to first enter the EU bloc, should register the asylum application.

De Maiziere argued that the EU first had to share a common approach on refugees and Berlin could not implement policies alone.
