Barack Obama is the first US president to visit Laos, a country heavily bombed by the US during the Vietnam War.

Obama was greeted with applause by many workers at Wattay International Airport in the capital of Vientiane, before being formally welcomed at the summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
