Stiliyan Petrov diagnosed with acute leukaemia: Football is over, time to fight for life

Bulgarian footballer and Aston Villa’s captain Stiliyan Petrov was diagnosed with acute leukemia, the club announced on Friday. “I will retire from football, this is the end. I have to fight for my life,” Petrov told Bulgarian media.

During Saturday’s championship match between Aston Villa – Chelsea (2-4), Stilian Petrov received one minute of applause from the entire stadium: it was the 19th minute (his t-shirt number) when arena started to applaud as a sign of support to the captain in sufferance.
